How can you lock down a windows vista computer for someone who can’t control themselves?
My brother in law has some kind of cognitive disorder, and despite repeated warnings not to click on any pop-ups, or install any software, he still manages to reduce it to a quivering mass of silicon on a regular basis, requiring me to spend hours attempting to salvage it, usually ending up with me reinstalling windows and attempting to install security and anti-ad/spyware software.
Does anyone know of any settings in Windows Vista that I can use to keep him from disabling the software I install, and circumventing built-in security? Difficulty: He’s an ex-IT guy, and still remembers enough to be dangerous.
There is a simple fix for this. Create him an account with user level access, this will prevent him from installing programs. Make sure he doesn’t know the password to your admin account though, if he is an IT professional he will know a way to get into your admin account, you will need to configure his account. For extra measures install a firewall or a security suite with a lock in password, before he can install anything or allow programs to run you will need a password to go through, make sure your the only one that knows the password.
