My mother's 65th birthday ideas?

Easter Sunday is the 65th anniversary of my mom too. Me and my boyfriend are Santa dinner at home with our families. I wanted to make a cake. I thought about buying one, but it would be cheaper if at least not at the same price to do everything myself. I do not know how to do cakes, I have a recipe for Wilton buttercream icing is good, but I want to find one that is good but not as sweet. Anyway, what I want are the ideas of your cake. I chocolate making black icing to make them (from experience gap not work so well when it comes to black). But I'm not sure. Any ideas would be great! Thanks!

Cream sugar gradually and continue beating until fluffy. Add the egg whites. Add vanilla. Sift flour with baking powder and salt. Mix well. Stir butter mixture alternately with milk in three or four additions, beginning and ending with flour mixture until blended. Transfer dough to a butter (and covered with parchment paper) in diameter Pan, February 9, pans, 9 "X13" pan, oven large baking sheet in a preheated oven at 350 * etc 25-35 minutes depending on thickness cake. Test fire. Cool on a rack. For frosting, beat butter until fluffy. Whisk in 1 cup powdered sugar. Embed egg white and vanilla. Add 2 cups powdered sugar and beat well. Add remaining sugar and water until frothy. Laminate wrap until serving. ice as you want.
