Organizing Your Bedroom Closet

Organizing Your Bedroom Closet

Cleaning and organizing your bedroom closet may seem like an insurmountable challenge, especially when you’re looking at piles of disorganization and mess. It’s easy to get discouraged and give up, but if take it one step at a time, you’ll have a clean and organized closet in no time.

The first thing you should do is completely remove Everything From your closet. You are not simply shuffling items around, because that would just add to the disorganization and chaos in your closet. Take every item out of your bedroom closet and place them in your bedroom.

Next, vacuum the inside of your closet. When our closets are packed and full, dust settles in between the crevices and cracks of boxes and items. If your closet hasn’t been cleaned in a long time, you may want to wipe off the walls as well. This way, you’re putting your belongings into a clean environment. If you’re taking the time to organize your closet, you might as well use the opportunity to clean the area.

Now that the area is clean and empty, stand back and look at the empty space. Think about where and how you would like to store your clothes, shoes, belts, ties and handbags. Smaller bedroom closets should not be used to store miscellaneous items like holiday decorations or old high school yearbooks. Try to keep your bedroom closet reserved for clothes and clothing accessories.

Decide on an organizational plan for your closet. If possible, use a closet organizer, install shelves or storage units for specific items. Closet organization systems can be purchased or customized to fit your unique items. Hooks can be installed for hanging belts or handbags and drawers or cubbies can be built in for storing shoes. A custom closet organization system will maximize your available space and improve the overall value of your home. Custom closets can be built in any material and any wood stain that matches the existing design and décor of your home.

Once your closet organization system is in place, begin placing your items back into the closet. There should be a place for every type of clothing item. Keep like things together: long sleeve shirts with other long sleeve shirts, an area for pants, dresses, etc. If you have a larger closet, you may want to organize your clothes according to season. Or you can create a planned wardrobe section, where you choose which outfits to wear for the week and hang them in order. Your organizational system should be one that works best for you. Make sure you discard or donate any items that you will not wear or do not want. There is no point in keeping a shirt that you know will never be worn again, and there’s no point in that shirt taking up space in your newly organized closet.

If your closet is currently an embarrassing and disorganized mess, it is time to put it in order and de-clutter your life. With a little time and determination, you’ll have an organized closet system and a complete reduction of stress and frustration.
