Vintage Fisher Price Toys
By Brian Rather
Fisher Price toys have been an indelible childhood experience for a lot of people and widely considered to be "toys that never grow old." Because of the powerful impact that these amazing toys have contributed for those who had come across them, it is no surprise that even if one has matured enough to let go of playing with toys, still there is a prevailing attachment to collect them so as to be nostalgic of the old times. It is for this reason that Fisher Price toys are considered to be well-sought items in public auctions and online shops today. The price is not necessarily and wholly dependent on the design and innovation (although these two factors somehow matter) but you forgot to include age and scarcity to go with them. Many of the Fisher-Price items and toys are discontinued so the quest to find them (so as to add them into their toy collections and collectibles) has been going around for quite some time, such as the Fisher Price Circus and many of the Fisher Price pull toys.
Vintage Fisher Price toys are toys that are either long gone from the manufacturing line of the toy company (thus, toys that are discontinued) or items that are of considerable old age, enough to be "vintage" in a sense. The Fisher Price company have been designing and manufacturing toys since the early 1930 and up until the present, so within that great span of time the prominent toy company has produced and distributed hundreds of different kinds of toys you could imagine. As of the moment the Fisher-Price company is now a division of Mattel Inc., but they have expanded their products to baby gear products, preschool basics, playsets, toddler beds, sports and activity toys and many more. The company is the expert for products that are associated with baby and toddler needs and this has been proven for quite a long time.
It is important to note that if you plan to buy a vintage Fisher Price toy it is not as easy as walking into an ordinary toy store. Although these vintage toys are distributed widely all over the place, it is unlikely to find them on display in any toy store, unless it is a toy store that sells vintage products and collectibles. The price of the any vintage toy is dependent upon three qualities, namely: age, scarcity and availability, and quality. Age refers to when the toy is manufactured - the earlier, the higher the price. Scarcity and availability refer is associated with the supply and demand concept: if the toy is discontinued in the manufacturing line (no more supply) then it is likely to be expensive because toy collectors have high demand for it. Quality refers to the state of the toy, whether intact or broken - the more highly maintained, the higher the price.
Many of the most sought after vintage toys such as the Fisher Price circus and the Fisher Price pull toys can be found at online auction sites such as eBay. If you are seeking authentic toys you must be wary of reproductions. Many of these toys have been brought back and resemble their vintage versions.
